Our method

Somatic Experiencing

Your body keeps its own record of what has happened to you. Somatic Experiencing, developed by Peter Levine, is a way of paying attention to sensation in small steps. We borrow its tools so that you can go slowly and come back.

Two ideas we borrow

The first is titration: you approach something hard in small doses instead of all at once. The second is pendulation: you move your attention between something uncomfortable and something steady, like your breath, your feet on the floor or a sense of being safe.

Going there and coming back is the skill. You practice it before ceremony so that you have it when you need it.

How we use it

In ceremony, the body often speaks: shaking, tears, heat, a need to move. Our facilitators are taught to stay with that rather than interrupt it, and to help you slow down if it gets to be too much.

Afterward, we build in simple body practices such as breathwork, gentle movement and grounding, so the work does not stay only in your head.
